Doula VS. Midwife - Everything you need to know!

A doula is a trained professional who provides emotional, informational & physical support to pregnant individuals and their partners before, during, and after childbirth. They focus on non-medical aspects, offering comfort measures, guidance, and advocacy.

A midwife is a healthcare provider who specializes in providing medical care during pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period. Midwives can support births whether you choose to birth at home, in hospital or at a birth centre.

While both doulas and midwives play important roles in the childbirth process, doulas provide emotional and physical support, while midwives offer medical care and expertise.

Did you know? Midwives services are covered through Alberta Health Services! If you are hoping for midwifery care make sure you apply early on in the pregnancy as midwifery practices book up quickly in Calgary.
